About Calorique
Free health calculators. Peer-reviewed formulas. No signup. No health data collected.
Why Calorique Exists
Most people asking a basic nutrition or body-composition question do not need a $60/year subscription, a sign-up flow, or a fitness-influencer's email list. They need a quick, trustworthy estimate: how many calories do I actually burn? what macros should I target? what is my body fat really? how long until I reach my goal weight? The answers exist in peer-reviewed nutrition science, but they live behind app stores, gated calculators, or aggressive upsells.
Calorique was built to change that. Every calculator on this Site is free. None require an email address, phone number, or account. Nothing you type is transmitted off your device. You close the tab and it is gone. The goal is a single thing: give you a defensible number in under thirty seconds.
What We Offer
Calorique publishes free calculators covering the nutrition and fitness questions that come up most often for adults who manage their own health. Core tools include:
- BMR and TDEE — baseline metabolic rate and daily calorie burn using Mifflin-St Jeor, Harris-Benedict, and Katch-McArdle equations.
- Body composition — BMI (adult and pediatric CDC), body fat percentage, lean body mass, waist-to-height ratio.
- Macronutrients — protein, carbohydrate, and fat targets for weight loss, maintenance, and muscle gain.
- Activity energy — calorie burn by activity using METs (metabolic equivalent of task) tables.
- Weight projections — realistic weight change timelines at different calorie deficits or surpluses.
- Hydration, fiber, and other micronutrients — daily targets based on age, sex, and activity.
- Body specialty tools — BAC (blood alcohol content), ideal body weight, pregnancy nutrition estimates, and similar.
Alongside the calculators, we publish long-form guides explaining how each metric works, which formulas the research supports, where popular shortcuts go wrong, and how to interpret results in real life — not as numbers in isolation.
Our Methodology
Every calculator is grounded in peer-reviewed science. BMR uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation as the default (selected for best population validity per the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) with Harris-Benedict and Katch-McArdle available as alternates. BMI classifications use WHO thresholds for adults and CDC percentile growth charts for children. Activity multipliers use the Compendium of Physical Activities (MET values). Macronutrient targets use Institute of Medicine Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) and position statements from the International Society of Sports Nutrition.
When a research society updates guidance — revised DRIs, updated growth charts, new activity classifications — we re-validate and update the formulas across the Site. For our full approach, see the Methodology page.
The Team Behind Calorique
Calorique is maintained by a small team of software engineers and health/science writers with backgrounds in data science, exercise science literature, and personal-nutrition research. We are not licensed dietitians, physicians, or personal trainers. What we do is implement well-established formulas faithfully and explain the underlying science in plain English.
Editorial oversight: All calculator formulas and long-form articles are reviewed against the primary scientific literature before publication. Every year — and whenever a professional society issues revised guidance — we re-validate the constants, thresholds, and equations used across the Site.
Corrections workflow: Errors happen; when a reader flags one, we investigate within 48 hours, publish the correction, and update the "Last reviewed" date at the top of the affected page. Material corrections are noted on the Editorial Guidelines page so the correction history is publicly discoverable.
Independence: Calorique is independently owned. We do not accept sponsored placements disguised as editorial, we do not run affiliate product comparisons where placement is paid for, we do not recommend supplements or weight-loss programs, and we do not sell leads to fitness or nutrition companies. Our revenue comes from contextual display advertising (see Privacy Policy for disclosure details), which does not influence the content, ordering, or coverage of the calculators or articles you see.
Privacy and Your Health Data
Calorique calculators run entirely in your browser. Weight, height, age, body-composition inputs, and similar entries are computed locally in JavaScript and never leave your device. We cannot access them, we do not store them, and there is no "account" that might later be breached. The only data our servers see is the standard web-request metadata any site receives — IP address, user agent, and the page you requested. Health data is especially sensitive, and the only way to guarantee it stays private is to never transmit it in the first place. See our Privacy Policy for full disclosure.
What We Are Not
Calorique is not a medical service, a diagnostic tool, a treatment program, a prescription service, or a substitute for a qualified healthcare provider. Every calculator produces an estimate, not a clinical measurement. Conditions that affect metabolism or body composition — thyroid disorders, diabetes, PCOS, cardiovascular disease, pregnancy, eating disorders — require individualized care from a licensed clinician. Use Calorique to orient yourself, then bring your numbers to someone qualified to interpret them in your medical context.
Eating Disorder Safety Note
Calorie and body-composition tracking can trigger or worsen disordered eating. If you have a history of, or are currently struggling with, an eating disorder, please consult a qualified healthcare provider before using these tools. The National Eating Disorders Association helpline is 1-800-931-2237 (United States). Internationally, see your local resources or Butterfly Foundation (Australia), Beat (UK), or similar.
Accuracy, Limitations, and Corrections
Individual biology is variable, and every formula has error bars. We aim for accuracy but cannot capture every situation, and published constants are updated as science progresses. If you find an error — an outdated DRI, a miscited study, a formula coefficient wrong — email [email protected] with the page URL and the source. We investigate every report and publish corrections promptly.
